Those who came before me
Is the Bible sexist? How can any self-respecting woman call themselves a Christian? Isn't the Bible thousands of years behind the times when it comes to woman's rights? These are just some of the questions that have been thrown at Christianity throughout the years, and they are valid questions to have. But here is one of my own; does the Bible promote the equal treatment of women even in a culture that insisted on the opposite? For me the Bible provides proof time and time again of God choosing to use women for his important plans; to save nations, deliver messages, raise prophets amongst many other things. To me the Bible reveals so many stories of “bad-ass” women, who did “bad-ass” things for God. And these stories, of the women who came before me, encourage me to step out and be a bad-ass woman for God too. Through this project I want to address the idea that Christianity is sexist, and rather highlight the many great women written about within the Bible. I hope that this project will be empowering and an encouragement to women, especially other Christian women like myself, and will encourage people to go and explore for themselves the lives and great achievements of the biblical characters portrayed in my images.
